Palaces & Monuments:


Chehel Sotoon is one of the historical buildings of Isfahan in Iran. It's about 67000 sqm & has been established on Abbas Shah the 1st era in the middle of which a building has been built.
In the monarchy of Shah Abbas the 2nd it got complete. Many changes happened, Mirror hall, 18-column-hall, two big rooms in mirror hall, side verandas & the big basin in front if the hall with all paintings, mirror & tile design of walls & ceilings were added.
1. Painted ceiling of 18-column-hall, mirror ceiling of mirror hall & entrance mirror of Shah Abbas the 2nd sitting room.
2. Huge columns of 18 column hall & mirror hall, the body of which is a plane-tree.
3. Stony lions in each 4 corner of central basin of the hall & around painted marbled plinths which show stone-cutting industry of safaviyeh era.
4. Gold designs of the king hall, the rooms around the mirror hall & the big painting of the king hall which show Safavy kings.

Hasht Behesht Historical Building:

It is a sample of castles in which the latest kings of Safaviyeh lived & has been established in Suleiman Shah Era. This is the best palace being built in this era. Tiles being painted with birds, fierce animals & reptiles pictures are relics of this palace.
Most part of Hasht Behesht garden has been destroyed but its historical castle is still a valuable & interesting monument, around which a park has been made after revolution.

Rakib Khaneh Building:

It's known as one of the oldest & most historical monuments of Isfahan which has been built in the first years of eleventh century, simultaneous with Shah Abbas the 1st monarchy.
After some years in Ghajar era, this monument has been used as Zah Alsoltan house.
Now it's used as Isfahan contemporaneous art museum.
This building is located at the center of Isfahan near famous monuments such as: Ashraf Hall, Chehel Sotoon Palace, Ali Ghapoo & Tohid Khaneh.
By the overthrow of Safaviyeh government, Rakib Khaneh monument got abandoned & later in Ghajar era improved by the order of Haj Mohammad Hussein Khan Sadr Isfahani. It was later used as the house of Masoud Mirza Zal Alsoltan after some changes. Then after Islamic Revolution this monument was basically repaired & all the old objects of Tehran art museum transferred to Isfahan & exposed in this monument.
In order to gain this goal decorative treasure inaugurated & exploited officially.
At present this treasure with a total space of about 2600 sqm & 1200 sqm exhibition space, divided into some parts, is exposing hundreds of precious artistic relics for public visitors.

Saraviyeh (Old Fort):

Saraviyeh is a very old monument in Isfahan located near Shahrestan Bridge & north of Zayandehrood.
It has been a library holding numbers of books. It was destroyed in the attack of Arabs to Iran & now its remains exist as a hill.
Having found the best tool for writing & keeping knowledge, Iranians started searching the best place to establish a library and book treasure, a place being safe from earthquake & have sticky mud to be suitable for strong & secure buildings.
After a long curiosity, Jey village in Isfahan found to have the mentioned characteristics. In Jey, they chose the old fort & there established a big monument and named it Saraviyeh.

Bridges:

Shahrestan Bridge:


Shahrestan Bridge, Jey Bridge or Jesr Hussein Bridge is Isfahan's oldest bridge located on the Zayandehrood River. It has been built in Sasanian era & repaired in Deylamian & Saljooghian time. It is built in the old Jey in Isfahan & its pillars are firmed on natural stones of river forth. This bridge is 105 meters long & 4.25 to 5 meters wide. It has 12 big stoned-pillars & 11 springs.
Shahrestan Bridge has in fact been a military & war bridge .Jey Mosque, Saraviyeh & Jey Fence are in its neighborhood.

Marnan Bridge:

Marbin was its real name, which itself has been taken from Mehrbeen in Avesta culture. Since a long time ago when Jey / Shahrestan Bridge was the connection of north & south coast of Zayandehrood, Marnan Bridge connected north coast of Isfahan to its south coast in the west part. Marnan appearance has not changed since Safaviyeh era but had many repairs.

Allah Verdi khan Bridge / Siy-o-se pol:

Allah Verdi khan Bridge is located on Zayandehrood in Shah Abbas the 1st era & has been built by Allah Verdi Khan, his commander. Its other names are: siy-o-se pol, siy-o-se cheshmeh, chaharbagh, Jolfa & Zayandehrood.
This bridge has been built in 1005, simultaneous with chaharbagh street establishment. This is 300 meters long & 14 meters wide. So it's the longest bridge of Zayandehrood. In Safaviyan era water sprinkling ceremony has been taking place near this bridge. Jolfa Armenian also held their cross baptizing ceremony beside this famous bridge.

Jooyi Bridge:


It's a narrow bridge 147 meters long in Isfahan city between Allah Verdi Khan & Khajoo Bridge. This bridge was established by the order of Shah Abbas the 1st in order to connect royal gardens in north & south of Zayandehrood not for public traffic but a passage for Shah Safavi family, princes, ambassadors & the guests allowed to meet the king.

Khajoo Bridge:


This bridge is located on Zayandehrood in the east of Allah Verdi Khan Bridge in Isfahan; it was also called Baba Rokn Aldin, Shiraz & Hassan Abad. This bridge is one of the monuments of Shah Abbas Safavi. Its length is 133 meters & its width is 12 meters. It also has some other names but as it's in Khajoo location, it's called Khajoo Bridge.
Khajoo is one of the most famous bridges of Zayandehrood for its architecture & design. In Safaviyeh era it was the most beautiful bridge in the world. A building has been built between west & east sides of the bridge which has some rooms decorated by paintings. From this building the lords & nobles could watch swimming & boating matches on the artificial lake.
There are two stoned lions in east side of Khajoo Bridge which are the symbols of Bakhtiyar armies & Isfahan guards in this era.

Isfahan Names:

Isfahan other names from old days till now have been: Safahan, Safavian, Partak, Park, Pary, Paritaken, Partikan, Jey, Dar Alyahoodi, Rashoorjey, Sepahan, Sepaneh, Shahrestan, Safahoon, Gaba, Gabian, Gabiyeh, Gaby, Gy, Nesfe Jahan & Yahoodiyeh.

Most authors believe because this zone has been a gathering place for armies before Islam, especially in Sasanian era, it was called Ispahan & then changed to an Arabic word and became Isfahan.

Isfahan Day:

In the month of Bahman in 1383, after a suggestion from Dr. Shahin Sepanta & welcoming from non- governmental organizations in Isfahan of this suggestion, an attempt started for Isfahan Day selection. In the month of Ordibehesht in 1384, the 1st day of Azar was selected as Isfahan Day.

Architecture & Isfahan lyrics:

Isfahan is full of historical & artistic lyrics such as: Naghshe Jahan, Menar Jonban, Abbasi hotel, Kabootar Khaneh hotel, Chahar Bagh Abbasi passage, Sabzeh Meydan, Chehel Sotoon palace, Isfahan fire-temple, Ali Ghapoo palace, Hasht Behesht palace, & Chahar Bagh School.

Isfahan Nature:

Zayandehrood is the biggest road at the center of Iran which passes from the middle of Isfahan; also Najvan Garden is of a healthy climate beside Zayandehrood. The other Natural zones in Isfahan are Kolah Ghazi Mountain & Sofeh Mountain.
